Standard 12-Fiber Color Sequence

  • For cables with more than 12 fibers, the sequence repeats in groups of 12. Each group may be distinguished by striped fibers or colored buffer tubes to maintain unique identification .
  • In high-density ribbon cables or MPO connectors, fibers 13–16 may follow an extended sequence such as Olive, Magenta, Tan, and Lime, especially in European standards .

Loose-Tube and Ribbon Cable Color Coding

  • Fiber pigtails are pre-terminated fibers used for splicing or connecting to patch panels. They follow the same 12-color sequence for individual fibers, ensuring compatibility with the cable's color coding and simplifying installation .
  • High-count pigtails (more than 12 fibers) repeat the color sequence, often with striped or numbered fibers to maintain unique identification.
